Billinge Hill and Orrell Water Park Circular is a 6.3 mile loop trail located near Billinge, Merseyside, England that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This walk takes you around Billinge Hill and Orrell Water Park passing through farmlands and Houghwood Golf Course Considering the recent wet winter weather the ground was surprisingly firm where a good width of path was left uncultivated. Billinge Hill at 587ft is one of 176 'Marilyn's' in England and is the highest point on Merseyside but is much closer to Wigan. The Orrell Water Park with surrounding woodland was created from two disused reservoirs and is a beautiful place to relax and disconnect. The lower lake has a large car park which would make an alternative starting point as well. The upper lake is given over to course fishing where you can spend the day with family and friends. There are numerous paths along the way which lead to the Greenslate Water Meadows, a local nature reserve.
Nice walk with some great views. Still a little muddy in places but will be lovely by Easter
Nice hike muddy in places but enjoyable. some inclines and great views
brilliant walk with the dog. Plenty of nice views, it does get muddy in parts but nothing that waterproof boots or wellies can't handle.
Very muddy in parts (most), recommend Wellies or good boots. Really enjoyed the walk and getting off the beaten track. A bit of private land near the end which shows as a footpath but we had to climb a gate (little bit of room next to the gate for a dog but not a person). Coffee at the end at the cafe in the Water Park.
Extremely muddy. Very difficult going uphill. I would recommend doing this walk when dryer
Very muddy in Nov.... need stout boots and gaiters.... maybe poles too ....
Easy trail to follow with some stunning views at times. Very muddy in places I’d recommend doing this at a time of year when the paths are drier. If you go now wear nothing less than hiking boots or wellies otherwise you will struggle.
Really good trail, very very muddy but still beautiful views so worth it. Part of the trail said private road so I looped round and didn't really make it any longer.
