Getting There

A linear walk along London's Greenway, a raised footpath along the top of the embankment of Thames Water's northern outfall sewer. The walk starts alongside the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with chance to glimpse the parks distinctive landmarks, and also passes the beautiful Abbey Mills Pumping Station. The Greenway provides a wonderful traffic-free route to enjoy with family and friends. The walk is almost entirely flat and follows surfaced paths for the whole length. There are no stiles on route, just a couple of wide gates to negotiate, so it would be suitable for pushchairs. The Greenway path is open from 5.30am every day and is locked at 7pm in winter (Oct to Mar) and at 9pm in summer (Apr to Sep). Note that Thames Water may be undertaking works to repair Victorian bridges along the route, so there may be some minor diversions. Dogs are welcome on the Greenway footpath.

The walk starts from London's Stratford Station which is in Zone 3 and is served by the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), the Jubilee Line, the Central Line and mainline rail services. The walk finishes at Beckton Station which is also in Zone 3 and is served by the DLR. Your return journey between the two stations can be completed with a 20 minute single journey on the DLR.

Pretty straightforward, nice path a couple nice spots on the way, probably better for a cycle or run.

Walking

if you're looking for a long straight concrete path with incredibly boring views the whole way this is the walk for you. The only notable points of interest being the beautiful pumping station and a bit of a graveyard that you couldn't get to. Good for joggers or cyclists trying to get from A to B but not a pleasant, green or historical walk.

First to Review

This is for City people wanting an accessible peaceful walk on a level pathway and for anyone interested in London’s history. I fit both categories and loved it. The Cathedral of Sewage is beautiful (sic). I extended it at the end down to the Royal Docks thru the exciting developments along the edge of City Airport to Beckton Park DLR. PS the Olympic Park section NW of Stratford is also a pleasing walk with lots of history.
