The Farthing Downs and Happy Valley Loop is a loop starting in Old Coulsdon taking in Happy Valley, Farthing Downs and London's most southern public house, 'The Fox'. The walk includes mostly well worn paths through fields, hilltops and woodland. A few climbs provide beautiful views and make it feel like exercise. Probably the hardest of the climbs is nicely placed before reaching 'The Fox' so a stop may be required. Toilet facilities also available at Farthing Downs Car Park. Even though the walk has been designed to avoid the wettest and muddiest of areas unfortunately it is impossible to avoid here at certain times of the year so water proof foot wear is highly advisable during and after periods of rain. The walk is dog friendly as is 'The Fox' pub, however there are areas along the walk when your dogs should be on leads because of grazing sheep and cows but usually there are many visible signs to warn you of such times. The walk described starts in Old Coulsdon, which has a few car park spaces, if full you can park in nearby streets or otherwise you could also easily start the walk at Farthing Downs Car Park or 'The Fox' which have plenty of spaces (the pub can get very busy on weekends, so spaces can fill up and if you are planning to eat it is probably best to book in advance and give yourself time to get served, you could be there a while). Quite easily accessible by Public Transport from Coulsdon South station or by bus, the No.60 to Tollers Lane/Cross Ways, Stop A.

Lovely walk with very pretty views. Highly recommend waterproof shoes with a lot of grip, gets very sludgy after rainfall!

A little too wet and grey today to get the best out of this walk, still the autumn colours made it pleasant enough.

Me again, this time walked the loop in a clockwise direction and it works just as well. Just to add to what I said before, I have done the walk with my dog and it is dog friendly, though please keep an eye out for signs that ask you to keep your dog on a lead, there are few fields with sheep that the path runs along (outside). Also there are cattle grazing on Farthing Downs and wooded field near the pub, they were not too close on either occasion but I expect they could have been closer as they are free to roam. Overall I would say for about 3/4 of the walk my dog was off lead.

Luckily for me Happy Valley and Farthing Downs are near by so I know the area well. This walk takes in all the variety it has to offer... woodland, fields, great views, narrow paths, wide paths climbs, descents and a watering hole to boot. 5 miles on the recorder but didn’t feel like it. It is a little intricate in places so attention needs to be taken to make sure you remain on course. Muddy in places but amazingly less than expected after all the recent rain. Followed the route as described in an anti-clockwise direction. Toilet facilities at about 2 miles and Pub at 3.5 miles. A great walk that makes it hard to imagine you actually still in London.
