Getting There

A circular walk from the small village of Medbourne in Leicestershire. Having explored the centre of the village with its medieval Packhorse Bridge and pretty church, the route leads you out through arable fields to reach the nearby old mansion, Nevill Holt. The paths through the estate give you great views of the chapel, stable block and mansion, as well as the beautiful pieces of sculpture that are dotted around the grounds. The return leg follows a quiet lane which leads you back into the village. The route is incredibly peaceful and you will have lovely views throughout. The route has several long and steady climbs and descents throughout. You will be following a mixture of stone and grass tracks, field paths (which can get muddy) and tarmac lanes. The vast majority of the route is livestock free, ideal for dogs, with just one very short stretch through a sheep pasture so take care with dogs at this point. You will need to negotiate a couple of bridle gates and one kissing gate, and there are three stiles on route. The stiles have tight fence surrounds meaning dogs will need a hand over, but they can be avoided by taking a shortcut along a short stretch of lane. Allow 2.5 hours.

The village of Medbourne is located about 6 miles north-east of Market Harborough in Leicestershire. The walk starts and finishes at the Packhorse Bridge in the centre of the village, alongside St Giles Church and on Hallaton Road. There is some roadside parking within the village, including on Main Street and on Rectory Lane, but please park with respect for local residents. Approximate post code LE16 8DR.

Really scenic and a nice long walk. Was foggy and muddy when we went as the farmer had just turned up the field. Still highly recommend if you want a long walk. Wear wellies!

Trail goes through a large corn field which is slippy after the rain and very muddy not suitable for medium sized dogs I had to carry my 40kg dog over 4 stiles.

Lovely walk we started at Cafe Neville for breakfast rolls first and a cuppa then headed off down rectory lane. The views I have to say are fabulous. Well worth doing would definitely recommend.

Lovely lockdown walk. Really beautiful sites, you go through the prettiest towns. The distance is perfect for a Sunday walk with the family. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful walk, very accurate description. We struck left through an orchard and field rather than walk down the steep road to the kissing gate. There is a footpath clearly marked by a wall. The path has disappeared beyond the Opera House for a short distance through the orchard due to the installation of a sceptic tank. The stile out of the orchard is fairly easily located though.

Lovely walk, done a couple of times before, where you leave the road to go downhill through the orchard the path is no longer obvious, have done some building work and you have to find your way through. Also path back up to Neville Hall is quite overgrown and needs careful working through but the views are worth it once you get there.

Good walk and as said before some great views. We walked through a field of sweet corn that was higher than us.
