Getting There

A 5 mile circular walk through rural Leicestershire, near Market Harborough, taking in the arable fields and pastures and finishing along a short section of the Grand Union Canal. The walk is relatively flat and follows field paths in the main, which will be very muddy after wet weather. The crop fields can become a bit more challenging to cross close to harvest time and the pastures will be holding cattle and sheep so take care with dogs. There are several kissing gates and 13 stiles (all of which have open fencing or adjacent lifting gates for dogs but some are quite high for the humans!). Approximate time 2 to 2.5 hours.

The walk starts from the village of Foxton at the junction of Main Street and Swingbridge Street alongside the church. There is parking available in the layby here (opposite the Black Horse) for about eight cars, otherwise park on the village roads with care for residents. If you want lunch before or after your walk, The Black Horse also has its own car park. Approximate post code LE16 7RD.

Easy well signed walk which the 10 year old was able to navigate us along. The massive housing development near Market Harborough does mean you are walking along a fenced section for some of the route which really isn’t that pretty to look at. The route between Foxton and Lubenham is lovely with some good views. Mix of arable and pasture fields to go through.

Walked 30/01/18. Very muddy but otherwise enjoyable. Stages 3 and 6 have altered significantly as landowners have erected new fences and ploughed up one cross-field path.

First to Review

Completed this walk on Sunday 23rd April 2017. Lovely walk. Route explanation is not clear enough in places but we just used our instincts and were fine. Using the map really helped. It had been dry for a while when we did it which made it rugged but would certainly be very muddy after rain. Some stiles were hard to get over for those of us with less flexibility in our Legs. I would recommend this walk for its lovely views but book the pub if you plan to eat there as it can get busy, especially on weekends.
