Don’t bother doing this walk if you think it has anything to do with Tolkien or Lord of the Rings, can’t see any connection whatsoever. Also, nightmare to find anywhere to park and crowded out. Public loos out of order! Really disappointing.

1st walk in a long time and found this a good starter walk. Nothing too strenuous, but enjoyable. It was a bit muddy in parts but nothing impassable.

After reading some of the reviews here we were a little concerned it was going to be overly muddy as it had rained in the morning we arrived but it was perfectly fine; I would avoid it if heavy downpours had occurred a few days beforehand though as I can imagine it would get quite marshy/boggy after prolonged rainfall. Only one style near the end was impassible with a large dog and required me to precariously lift our 35kg golden retriever over but we managed. Not sure what exactly inspired Tolkien as it was beautiful scenery but nothing that isn’t readily available in any other scenic areas such as the lakes/moors - the only thing I can think is the pub name inspired the Shire and Shirebourne… All-in-all it was well worth doing and the dog loved the shallow stream sections!

Beautiful walking, such varied terrain. Its definitely a walk to get away from the world and it's problems. My 3 children loved it, and we will be walking it again (when middle sons blisters are toughned up).

Lovely walk, I can see it could be muddy after rainfall but was fine today after a couple of days of sunshine :) will definitely do again! Lots of lovely spots for a picnic.

Nice walk - dog had a paddle in the river :) Would have definitely got lost if it wasn’t for this map. The only thing I hated was the 50 cows in front of the final stile!

An excellent walk, a good mix of hilly sections and flat walking. Some bits were muddy and slippery after recent rain, but that's to be expected. I would recommend this walk!

This map is perfect! I’ve attempted the Tolkien Trail twice before and each time got well and truly lost. I’ve recently discovered this app and figured this route would be the perfect test to prove if third time really is a charm! A beautiful route with gorgeous scenery, we even stopped off for a little paddle in one of the rivers. I only have a little Jack Russell but I did need to pick him up and lift him over a few styles as they didn’t have anywhere for him to sneak under. Overall, this map is perfect and the trail was lovely, I would certainly do again.
