A circular walk around Stocks Reservoir within the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire. The walk begins in Gisburn Forest which is unusual within the wider area of the Forest of Bowland in that it is a forest and has trees! Lots of them. Those walkers familiar with the Forest of Bowland will know that much of it is characterized by a lack of trees - the term forest referring to the area's past as a royal hunting park. The location at the start of the walk lies close to Lancashire's lost village of Stocks. Indeed, the ruins of the old church can be seen to the rear of the car park. As will be seen on the trail this is one of the best places in Lancashire for bird watching, with wildfowl and waders out on the water and then an impressive range of species attracted to woodland habitats. The walk is a superb circuit in one of the most attractive parts of the county - if not country. This circular route is way marked with white arrows on a light blue background. The walk is generally easy with two pronounced gradients. It follows a mixture of grass and stone tracks and paths through woodland and across fields. You will need to negotiate gates, kissing gates, steps, footbridges and a couple of stiles. You may come across grazing sheep and cattle. Refreshments are available at the cafe in the Fishing Lodge from March to October. Allow 3.5 hours.

Easy parking, £3 all day. Walked on a Sunday in July and still very quiet. Path is very good underfoot and 99% of the walk is off metal rd. very peaceful.
