Set off from Grimsargh aiming for Clitheroe. This plan involved getting a bus at either Ribchester or Hurst Green (if necessary). Lancashire County Council don’t go overboard in their marking of the Ribble Way. There are signs but in some places where route finding through fields and farms can be a bit tricky certainly not enough especially on the stretch between Ribchester and Dinkley. The Ribble Way certainly isn’t overwhelmed with traffic. Stop for a pint in the White Bull at Ribchester. A good pub but one that has changed hands regularly over the years.  No-one seems to be able to make a decent go of it. Ribchester is an interesting place with it’s Roman remains and old church but it seems a bit soulless. Plenty of parked cars in the little streets but never anyone around, no signs of life. There are some good stretches through fields and woodlands by the river but also some that take you away from the river along roads. The walk from Winkley Hall to Mitton along a busy, narrow road with no footpath is particularly unpleasant. If only they’d restore a ferry service at Hacking Hall it would cut out the loop round and over the Lower Hodder Bridge. The Ribble Way is a through trail. Check out all the other downloadable trails here: https://www.alltrails.com/lists/the-ribble-way
