A nice enough stomp up country lanes, through sheep pasture (there's an interesting and eerie little hawthorn tree hung with chimes and remembrances), back onto the lane passing a very pretty stream and waterfall, then up onto the moors. Some atmospheric ruins and great 360 views. Shame about the last bit, along a road again with lorries hurtling past to the quarry, but there are plenty of trails upon the moor and we shall explore further next time.

We completed this loop in wet and windy conditions. very boggy underfoot on the Moors, glad I had my waterproof socks on. Some stiles aren't dog friendly so had to coax GSD across them. Not as many ruins as I was expecting. Will have to give this one another go in drier conditions I think.

Did this with 2 children, at first it's a bit confusing as it's not obvious which trail to take on the hills, however once you find the memorial trees head down and right towards the road then it's pretty straight forward. Almost a 360 degree view from the top for not much effort!

many routes available and ruins throughout forest. High Spring waterfalls are dry but river runs which children can paddle. Enjoyable with children.

Very quiet. Not as many abandoned farm buildings as expected. Very windy when you’re at the summit. Dog loved it!
