Getting There

A circular pub walk from the Cricketers in Sarratt, Hertfordshire. The Cricketers overlooks the green in the village of Sarratt and is a great place to sit with a pint on a sunny day, watching the world roll by. The walking route takes in the surrounding classic Chiltern Hills, with peaceful rolling hills and valleys, the pretty River Chess, water meadows and plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The route includes several climbs and descents throughout. The paths cross fields and woodlands and so can be quite muddy in winter and after periods of rain so robust footwear is recommended (plus a change of shoes for the pub!). Several of the fields are likely to be holding cattle or horses so take care with dogs. You will need to negotiate several gates/kissing gates plus 3 stiles (all of which have open fencing at the side that most dogs should be able to negotiate). Approximate time 2 to 2.5 hours.

Sarratt is located about 4 miles north of Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire. The walk starts and finishes from the Cricketers on The Green, which has its own car park. Approximate post code WD3 6AS.

I would give it 4.5 if I could. Lovely walk - would definitely recommend. We started and finished it at Chorylewood, which adds c.6km in total and is definitely worth it. Lovely varied landscape all round.

We’ve done this walk so many times and it’s lovely at an time of year. If you are a dog owner, be aware you are often walking through fields of livestock so dogs can’t run free. The pub is lovely whether just for a drink or for food.

Lovely route completed today. We passed alpaca, horses and a donkey along the way and had a great time. The app was spot on with directions.

Really lovely walk - lots of wildlife - saw a wild heron and some not so wild alpacas. Very varied terrain - some fields, woodland and pretty villages. Stunning views, a bit of the river chess. Perfect.

Great walk. Start and end at (what looks like) a lovely pub! Unable to try due to Coronavirus lockdown! Will re visit. Dogs do need to be on the lead a fair bit due to horses/ cows etc but very enjoyable.

Great route for famies with plenty of grazing animals. Two things though, one there's no space like a bench or table to sit down for a picnic along the route. The other is that there's literally no access to River Chess which was a disappointment. Other than these very pleasant
