An idyllic walk close to Bishopstoke, through ancient woodland and pristine Hampshire countryside. This walk is rich in wildlife and stunning in spring with its bluebells. It is also very tranquil because, unlike some Hampshire walks, it doesn't suffer from motorway noise. At the time of writing (Summer 2018) this is a beautiful tranquil walk through countryside, but it is worth noting that there are long-term plans by Eastleigh Borough Council to sadly infill the large area of farmland between the two woods with housing and to turn the bridleway into a through-road. If this happens, the walk will still be accessible, but will be different in nature. The walk is very popular with dog walkers and families (there are wooden climbing frames, benches, picnic tables, and a bike track en route). There are no roads, just a variety of paths and one bridleway. The woods are interspersed with several streams which either have bridges or stepping stones which are all negotiable with care. In Stoke Park Woods there are several very well made paths which are always dry but if you are going to follow the smaller paths these can get a bit muddy, so stout walking boots are recommended. You will need to negotiate one kissing gate but there are no stiles. The route is relatively flat. as you just "enter" the car park, take the narrow track immediately to the left. Then follow the track, keep walking along the edge of the wood for quite a while, you will eventually reach the gate. Allow 1.5-2 hours. (For a shorter version you could walk around either Stoke Park Wood or Upper Barn Copse and there are plenty of alternative paths to choose from, particularly in Stoke Park Wood.)
