Getting There

A circular pub walk from the Mill House in North Warnborough, near Hook. The Mill House has its own large mill pond set within beautiful gardens making it the perfect relaxing place for refreshments before or after your walk. The walking route provides a lovely mix of environments, allowing you to explore open heath, mixed woodland, fields and a long stretch of a pretty canal towpath. You'll also have chance to explore the impressive ruins of Odiham Castle along the way. The walk is relatively flat with just a couple of gentle slopes. The paths are a mixture of stone towpaths, quiet lanes and woodland paths, the latter of which can be very muddy so good waterproof footwear is recommended after periods of rain. There are several gates, a few squeeze gaps plus two stiles to negotiate (both of which have adjacent gaps which should be easy for most dogs). There is one short section of road walking so take care with children here. The heath is grazed by cattle for conservation and one field may be holding a couple of smallholding cows so take care with dogs. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours.

North Warnborough is just south of Junction 5 of the M3, between Odiham and Hook. The walk starts and finishes from the Mill House pub on the B3349 Hook Road (note there are two Hook Roads '€“ you want the further east of the two) just a few hundred yards from its junction with the A287. Approximate post code RG29 1ET.

WalkingGreat!

Had a very nice walk here on a Sunday afternoon. Parked in the Mill House pub and a couple of hours later after the walk we were back and ready for a Sunday roast! The walk is fairly flat and easy going and has a nice mix of scenery as you go round.

Really loved this trail, took two children and a dog! Lots to see and the Millhouse Inn at the end is a perfect way to finish a nice walk.

WalkingGreat!

Lovely family walk, lots to see including Odiham Castle and Greywell Tunnel. Great for kids to explore if a little on the long side in terms of distance. Refreshing refreshments at the beautiful Mill House Pond pub afterwards as a treat!

Excellent walk. But be careful of the loose cattle in section 1

Lovely walk with a mix of terrain. We added another km on to avoid walking along the pavement through north Warnborough so went along the canal instead.

car park at Mill pub is closed due to covid. We parked in Odiham instead and walked to the start. Nice walk, slightly muddy in places with the ruined castle adding interest.

I love old castles, that combined with beautiful natural scenery makes this a lovely walk.

Lovely walk, flooded in areas so wellies or good hiking boots are needed.

Great dog walking trail with lovely views of the disused canal. Odium castle was a good surprise also. Wouldn’t recommend food at the mill house - very expensive and not great quality

A lovely country walk. The pub at the end is really good too. The trail was a little overgrown in places but we could still go through it you just wouldn’t want bare legs as a few brambles and stinging nettles on the trail during the woodland section. We did get a little bit lost at one point during the open woods area and had to backtrack. I think that was because we were chatting away and took the wrong fork! The map guided us back on track pretty quickly.

The Mill House is a great place to start and finish this walk through woods, fields and along the Basingstoke canal towpath. In one or two places it was very muddy but nothing very serious. In all easy to get to, easy to park and good place to have lunch afterwards.

This should be a really nice walk, but for me it was spoiled by the almost constant drone of traffic from the M3 (I should have looked at the map better before starting). Some nice points of interest - castle, canal, some lovely houses - but tranquility shattered by traffic and helicopters...

Excellent walk through mixed woodland, pastures and alongside the Basingstoke Canal - it was a cold, bright day when we went and therefore not very muddy. Odiham Castle is a real treat. Nice food and drink at the Mill House Pub at the end of the walk was a nice bonus!

What a lovely walk! Quiet and beautiful. Very detailed instruction - big thank you to the author. A combination of woodland and canal. Pass odiham castle and some beautiful cottages. The mill house pub has a beautiful garden near the river ' a good place to go before or after the walk.

We really enjoyed this walk, if it's been raining it could be very muddy
