Description
Waypoints (3)

This 16km trail starts at Fleet Pond which is the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire. The nature reserve has 141 acres (57ha) of varied habitats including heathland, woodland, reedbed and marsh, and is home for many species of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and wild flowers. Enjoy a walk or bike ride around the lake, with nice viewing points and sunset. Worth bringing wellies to walk around as it gets quite muddy. This is a truly beautiful and tranquil nature reserve in the midst or urban chaos.

Walking

Unfortunately this needs to either be updated or removed from the site. 80% of the walk was lovely and brilliant for the dog who was off the lead most of the time. However, from the point at which you join Ively Road (about 3.5km in) there are significant issues. The footpath you are meant to join has been completely fenced off and is inaccessible to the public. We walked along the fence line until we reached Aldershot Road as the main road has no pavement but this will be inaccessible in a few weeks due to overgrown brambles. We then walked along the main road as directed, which does have a pavement. However, the turning opposite Lafans Bridge is now fenced off, so we had to continue along the road for another KM until just before Rushmoor Road (it looks like there are other access point before this but again, these are now fenced off). This added a few extra KMs which was fine, but I highly doubt this route will be possible in a few weeks. As has been suggested by someone else you could try and join the canal path at the end of Ively Road but we didn’t realise this was an option at the time - it’s not that obvious!

We couldn't get to parts of the route due to military fencing in a few places.

The path opposite Laffans Bridge is closed off and cannot be crossed. I walked along the road towards Aldershot and turned up the road towards Rushmoor Arena and onto Claycart Road. Picked up the track towards Caesar’s Camp. This closure is definitely permanent, I’m going to re walk this route today (13/02/21) using the canal on the Fleet Road stage.

Is this a permanent closure, or one resulting from weather/covid restrictions? If it's a permanent closure I'm happy to redraw the trail. Please let me know Stephen. We rely on feedback like this from our AllTrails users to ensure these trails are kept up to date.

Great trail! Really loved it. But if you follow the original poster's route, please be ware that it leads you on to a private path somewhere off Fleet Road. You can no longer do this as it's been fenced off.

Good second half, first half took us onto a main road with no visible way to get onto a walking path again. had to walk quite a far out of the way to rejoin a path. when we did rejoin, we had to go through some fences which look like you can't get through them, but you can! not bad, probably won't do again soon
