Getting There

This is a beautiful walk around the Farley Mount area. It starts at the Farley Mount car park and you will pass the mount (the pyramid shaped folly that gives the park its name) on the way to waypoint 1. Keep an eye on the views also as this is one of the most beautiful walks. There are also Geocaches along this route if you are that way inclined. The track is a solid well trodden track for the majority of the route, the first half is pretty flat, the second half has a few very slight inclines but nothing too bad. The track and footpath is obvious and is easy to navigate. There are no kissing gates or stiles on route.

Farley Mount is about a 15 minute drive from Jn 11 of the M3. There is a suitable car park which is nearby the actual Mount at Farley Mount and the car park is free (correct May 2016). Leave the M3 at Junction 11 and join the A3090 to Winchester. Go through Badger Farm (along Badger Farm Road) to reach a roundabout with Romsey Road. Turn right and then at the next roundabout turn left into Chilbolton Avenue. Take the first left to head west along Sarum Road. This will take you out past a Golf Course on your right. (The post code SO22 5QE will take you to this Golf Course). Continue going west until you meet a crossroads. Go straight over the crossroad and continue for approx 2 miles. The road will naturally bend to the left and you will eventually get to a 'triangle' junction - turn right. Continue for approx 1.5 miles and the Monument car park is on your left-hand side. (Sarum Road turns into a single track road so please be careful).

It was OK, there wasn't not enough points of interest for me, as its not bluebell season, I found that it was 1 dimensional, no wow factor River, wildlife, or buildings, but will be lovely when bluebells are out. It was mostly walking around the access road around private land. The hill at the end didn't make it a "moderate" hike, if you compare it to lulworth cove which is also moderate.

Done this trek couple weeks ago. Would recommend doing trail in reverse this time of year. That aside some breathtaking views along the way

Remember that film called Stand By Me when with the kids on the train track? It’s kinda like that, but near Winchester with no train track and covered in mud.

Very muddy trail. Definitely worth doing the trail in reverse, it is quite the incline and very slippery. Otherwise a lovely walk.

Nice walk with good views and is pretty flat and easy going in most areas. If you don’t fancy the incline at the end do the route in reverse, it’s a more gentle ascent. Did it at lunch time on a Monday and very rarely came across other walkers. Some spots quite muddy but easy to negotiate.

good for a long walk. long uphill at the end. looks like there is possibility to cut through some of the woodland which we might do next time as it can be quite samey. wonderful views. no livestock. would recommend.
