Getting There

Please be mindful and considerate when hiking this trail as parts of it are on private property. A circular walk close to Liss on the borders of West Sussex and Hampshire, enjoying large sections of mixed woodland and a few quiet arable fields. There is lots of wildlife to enjoy and great views of the South Downs ridge. Half way around, the walk takes you through the idyllic village of Rogate with its quaint church and classic village pub. The walk has several steady climbs and descents throughout, plus a couple of short steeper sections. The paths and bridleways are rutted and uneven and can also get very muddy at times, so good boots are a must. There is one stretch along a quiet country lane, so take care of occasional traffic (or tractors!) here. You will need to negotiate a few gates plus one stile (which has a gap at the side that most dogs should be able to pass through). A few of the narrower paths can be a bit overgrown in the height of summer. There is no livestock on route and well-behaved dogs will be able to enjoy lots of time off lead. Allow 2.5 hours.

Durford Wood is located about 1.5 miles south-east of Liss. The walk starts at the National Trust car park for Durford Wood, a stone car park with parking for about 12 cars. The car park is accessed from Combe Hill Close, directly opposite the gates for Mulberry Cottage. Approximate post code GU31 5DS.

For the most part a nice trail, there was parts that went through farmers fields in which the farmer had seemed to have planted over what should have been the route but other than than enjoyable walk

Nice spots but not very well signaled. Part of the trail in a private field has been closed off

Walking

A very pleasant walk through woods and fields. The general downhill trend over the first half of the route was rewarded by the distraction of beautiful rhododendrons in the woods as we climbed back up. Will return to lead others on this one.

Beautiful walk. brilliant views and the rhododendron throughout one part of the woodland was stunning . The last section takes you through a licensed mountain bike park which according to the poster holds scheduled events so I would check online before doing this walk again that there wasnt one happening as I imagine it would be very busy . I look forward to doing this walk again and is now definitely one of my favourites

Walking

Best walk we've ever done on AllTrails. Completed during Coronavirus isolation and barely saw a sole. There are lots of foxgloves and rhododendron on this walk so it's going to even better in May. The first stretch of the walk passes through a mountain bike piste - be amazed at some of the jumps. As the footpath approaches Rogate there is a stile to cross and the path crosses a field. On the day that we did it the field had just been ploughed so we couldn't see the path. Turn right instead and use to approach to the house.

Walking

This trail has a lot more ups and downs than we expected but good clear path except for couple of sections which were jungle like. We also planned starting from the White Horse to get back for lunch but unfortunately there was a problem with the kitchen and had to eat elsewhere.

Lovely walk, through varied terrain. Slightly overgrown in some places, might be worth wearing trousers, or putting up with the nettle stings. As ever, brilliantly described.

Beautiful woodland! A nice walk. Would do it against. We started in Rogate instead so we could have a pub lunch afterwards at the White Horse.
