A circular walk from the Hampshire market town of New Alresford. The walk starts from the station car park (the terminus of the Watercress Line heritage steam railway) and crosses the town to join the riverside path along the pretty River Alre. The route then swings north and west through ancient lanes and farm tracks to reach Old Alresford with its beautiful church, before returning alongside streams to New Alresford. The riverside paths are stunning with chance to really appreciate the fast-running clear water that makes such a perfect environment for the base of Hampshire's watercress industry. The route follows a mixture of tarmac, stone and grass paths/lanes and whilst most of these are well-made, the route can get a little muddy after wet weather. There are no stiles and gates but there are a few long and steady climbs and descents. There are public toilets on Station Road near the start of the walk and there are many options for refreshments in the town itself. Approximate time 1.5 to 2 hours.

Great trail, beautiful riverside walk by crystal clear water, with a small stall taking donations for duck food combined with small undulating walks through the local fields.

Brilliant trail, which starts and finishes in the lovely Alresbury. Be sure to take a donation for the duck food. Good mix of riverside and quiet farm tracks and great to learn about the history of the area. This is probably on the lower end of moderate, quite easy.

Excellent walk with really good description of the paths and surrounding areas with good variety. Enjoyed the whole walk from start to finish and the hedgerows as mentioned above didn't affect it for me - especially as the last river section is shortly after. Throw in a quick pint at The Globe (left of the Old Fire Station) on the way back for good measure.

Lovely start. Pretty boring with long stretches of high hedgerows at times.
