Blackstone Edge and Green Withens Reservoir Circular is a 6.3 mile loop trail located near Milnrow, Greater Manchester, England that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Blackstone Edge is a friendly and challenging trail for beginners who wants an adventure. You can start the trail from the car park close to the Boundary Stone, however, there are no facilities. This walk, is a mix of terrains at the ways provides a lot of epic experiences for hikers. Many activities can be done at the woodland and it's ideal during all seasons. Some care has to be taken at the hills because few parts get very muddy after wet weather. This ride is a good challenge for dog walkers and is a perfect trail to spend with friends and family.
I prefer to do this route anticlockwise; start with the captivating bleakness of the moorland, then onto the busier Blackstone section. The run between the two can get a little boggy, but worth the slop :)
A lot of boggy areas and many were impassible without getting drenched
Very wet under foot and bogs in a lot of areas but nice brisk walk.
Great little route quite boggy in areas but easy pathways to get through
Great walk. Easy route to follow. The packhorse trail is fairly boggy when wet, but still manageable. Our spaniel loved it. If there's a downside it's the start and finish by the M62.
Good walk Blackstone edge to Baitings and Rydale reservoirs returning via Dog hill
Easy trail to follow although we must of picked the wettest day in October. So very wet. Very boggy. But all in all. Still an enjoyable walk
really easy path to follow, a little windy and boggy but great with the dog
We started at the layby on the A672 and followed the route round to the left. The walk up was beautiful, not too steep and lots of great views. As we headed back down, the ground became a bit boggy in parts. We took a wrong turn as the trail split in two and rather than heading down towards the reservoir, we carried straight on back towards where we started. The route was VERY boggy so unless you like having wet, muddy shoes, I'd recommend heading down towards the reservoir instead.
Lovely day to go walking but despite the lovely weather the ground was very boggy in places. Path was well marked out until after the blackstones and it became a bit more remote and harder to follow. Pretty much just walking through a field! Still enjoyed it and managed to cover 11k despite taking a different route.
This was a nice easy trail, perfect for a leisurely walk. Took us 2.30hours to do it with a small break in the middle. great for a summers day, although I can imagine it's always windy up there. great variety of footpaths, from paved, to rocky to moorland. some really great views too.
