Getting There

This is a circular and challenging walk through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds. The walk starts in the old wool town of Painswick, passes through the Slad Valley (the setting for Laurie Lee's "Cider With Rosie") to Bisley and returns along the Wysis Way. There are several steep ascents and descents and numerous stiles and kissing gates to negotiate. The stiles include stone stiles, fence stiles and at least one in double formation. The route follows field paths, tracks and lanes. You may be sharing some of the fields with livestock. Allow 5 hours. Refreshments are available in Painswick where there are several pubs, restaurant and tea-rooms, and in Bisley which has a pub and a tea-room.

The walk starts at Stamages Lane Car Park in Painswick, post code GL6 6UZ. This is a pay-and-display car park. There is also limited free parking on the main road just outside the car park.

Agree about the tricky patches, but the hard work is worth it.

Fantastic walk taking in some beautiful views and scenery. Largely off road along trails, and through fields and woodland. Quite challenging in places and found it much harder than similar distanced walks in the area but well worth it. Highly recommend.

Great trail with beautiful views. Easy to navigate as long as you’ve got reception. 8/10 for difficulty but a good few steep climbs.

Stunning hike around the countryside. The trail goes through woodland and open pastures and some grandeur houses! Many fields have life-stock In them. Trail is a little difficult to find near one of the woodland sections so keep an eye on the map! A fab workout if you have a few hours spare. Keep a look out for wildlife along the route.
