Amazing!!! A bit difficult for newbies in hiking but doable. The views are of course breathtaking and the weather was very good, which was a plus, so make sure to check the forecast before going! Make sure you don’t miss the seaside path when approach Eastbourne, as there are many trials and it can be confusing.
Love this trail! Got a good work out from it. It took us 5 hours with a generous lunch break. Perfect day trip from London to escape the city. At times it felt quite crowded. Sound travels really well, so sometimes it felt like people were right behind you.
I am a bit rusty with my hiking so I found going up all the hills hard work on such a hot day. my tip would be to take more water at least 2 litres for between Seaford and the next place for refreshments at Birling Gap. It is beautiful though and am proud of myself. It took for a rusty walker like me about 6 hours with a few short breaks from the start at Seaford beach to The Kiosk at the bottom of the hill in Eastbourne
Phenomenal! First morning train to Seaford, got to the beach by the trailhead at 7 am. This hike was the preferred west to east for the “best views,” though western views are photogenic too. Lots of rabbits early on. I timed my trip to cross the Cuckmere at low tide (changed to reef shoes) to avoid hiking inland to the bridge; barely ankle deep. Caution: rabbit holes are everywhere including close to the cliff edge, enough to turn an ankle or pitch you over the edge. And I’ve learned from previous hikes the chalk is extremely slippery and sticky when wet; this was a dry day though thin overcast for the first half. Lots of wildflowers throughout, almost tame finches at the National Trust facilities. Also a nice side trip into East Dean would be the Tiger Inn, though didn't do this time. FOLLOWUP: Did Eastbourne train terminus to the Cuckmere and back a couple weeks later - stopped at the Beachy Head Inn on the return and while enjoying a meal and a pint, got to watch a couple of Spitfires making the south coast run.
