Getting There

A delightful circular walk visiting the picturesque village of Sutton Poyntz and the famous Osmington White Horse with King George as its rider. The walk involves one quite steep climb which is rewarded with good views over to the Weymouth coast. There are several stiles and gates and some lower stretches can be muddy in wet weather. There are cows and horses along the route within the low pastures.

The walk starts in Osmington which is on the A353 east of Weymouth. Car parking is available on Church Lane.

Really enjoyed this walk with three generations of hikers. The only issues we had was that waypoint 6 led us into a field of maise. We felt bad at just ploughing through but the sat nav clearing showed the path as going through the field so assumed the farmer had planted over the right of way.

Such a good route! Mixture of everything - quaint village, some uphill climbs, beautiful views from the top. Potential to be muddy in parts but weather was on our side, and trainers were adequate.

Great walk, the single uphill is the only remotely challenging part, then it's an easy walk back

Great family walk taking in some great views over the Dorset coastline. Our children 8 & 9 handled the trail well, few steep hills but plenty of stops and view watching kept us on track. Stopped at The Springhead in Sutton Poyntz for coffee and hot chocolate which has children’s play area. Farm animals on the route home and easy and flat.

Most beautiful day on 8 July 2018. The Pub, The Springhead, just serves a carvery on a Sunday. Stunning views. Ground bone dry!

Very waterlogged and muddy. Just about passable but worth the wonderful views at the top.
