Description
Waypoints (0)

The Monsal Trail is a traffic free route along the former Midland Railway line for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users through some of the Peak District's most spectacular limestone dales. Most of the route was opened to the public in 1981. Over the years its tunnels were slowly converted into safe passages for users of the Trail. The public can now experience the full length of the former railway route at their own pace and see breathtaking views from numerous look-out points.

Great walk to Wyedale on the Monsal Trial. The viaduct and Monsal head are the best parts of it. The view from Monsal head; spectacular! However, it’s a shame that a lot scenery and views are hidden along the route and only seen from certain stop points.

I love this trail for bike riding. Need to ensure you have a bell on your bike when it’s busy. Very busy on a Sunday.

A relatively popular trail pretty much all on the flat (except for steps at the beginning). A good walk and kids seemed to enjoy the tunnels. Nice cafe at the old station and a bike hire if you’re into that sort of thing.

Perfect for cycling, relatively flat with slight inclines. The tunnels are really cool, and views are fantastic.

Great for cycling but would be a bit of a tedious walk I think. Hassop station cafe does amazing sandwiches and cakes!

A nice family walk on the disused rail line. Would have been nicer if more of it was adjacent to the river.

Very easy, to crowded, a lot of small kids so you need to be very careful- ok for Sunday relaxing cycling- u don’t have to have a MTB bike - flat trail.

Very flat with a few good views and the tunnels are cool. The tunnels are very cold! Bring another layer if walking, it was cold just biking through. Walking would be super cold!
