Waypoints (0)

Starting from the bridge over the River Sprint at Sadgill head north passing the imposing Buckbarrow Crag on your right. Climb past the numerous cascades in Cleft Ghyll and then turn right and head up the open fell side alongside a wall. Cross a stile and then head south-east towards the old observation pillar and the summit cairn of Tarn Crag. Head east and follow a fence until it turns sharp left towards Harrop Pike which has a prominent cairn. If you choose not to visit Harrop Pike head south from the fence corner when you will soon reach the summit of Grey Crag. From here head towards Great Howe and then locate an easy gully which is the key to the descent back to Sadgill.

Hiking

Today's hike wasn't the greatest conditions an we cut it short due to poor visibility, 10+ inches of snow, wind and rain, also timing to reach the summits.

The ascent gently winds and climbs next to the River Sprint before getting much steeper towards the summit of Tarn Crag. The old observation pillar and cairn mark the top of the climb, and views from Grey Crag towards the Old Coniston Man and Morecambe Bay are worth the boggy trek in between. The descent is a little steep at the end but the trail is overall easy to navigate with a few styles to muster.
