Scafell Pike via Lake Head Car Park is a 4.9 mile out and back trail located near Wasdale Head, Cumbria, England that features a river and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking.
The beginning of the trail can be found by leaving the car park and walking straight through the cow grail, continuing ahead. Do not turn to your right as the trail head is right before you cross the bridge (you cross a couple farm lands). Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England, at an elevation of 978 meters above sea level.
Character building in torrential rain and 60 mile an hour winds.
Good but don’t like the stone path but know it’s there for a reason.
Scarfell Pike is a little beast! But don’t let that put you off. We did the walk today with our 2 dogs (both medium sized, one a spaniel) and we all managed fine. It’s a long, relentless, uphill slog but worth it to say that you’ve done it. Don’t be put off taking your dog with you by other negative posts, as long as your dog is fit and used to a bit of hill walking they will manage fine. Enjoy!
A breathtaking climb...at every level! Truly worth all the steps.
Very nice, though very steep and too many loose rocks, but very nice walk up!
Torrential rain, sideways wind, nearly had a dead dog to contend with!
Nice trail most of the way up but it does change to a much more of an annoyance and dangerous loose small rocks that give you no purchase and are hard on your feet, almost felt like walking on someone’s chippined driveway but very steep done it now would not do it again with the amount of loose stones saw too many people fall and was far to busy
The start of the trail was not easy to locate and thankfully we had some help. From the car park walk straight through the cow grail and continue ahead, do not turn to your right as the trail head is right before you cross the bridge (you cross a couple farm lands). You could probably also find it if you crossed the bridge but we ended up on a completely different path, walking uphill along the lake. We discovered for the most direct route (and hard) the lake should be behind you. Generally the trail itself was rocky and as everyone says quite difficult in the middle. I really wish I brought hiking poles because my knees took a beating. I don’t know why I skipped out of it. You definitely need shoes with ankle support and was quite cold towards the top. Remember to take not of what path you used towards the summit. It was overall worth it but bring hiking poles if you don’t think you need it. It’ll help with the descent.
This was moderately difficult, some harder bits but nothing too technical. The view is incredible, pretty much the same view most of the way up so perhaps another trail if you’re looking for varied views. Still beautiful and not too hard so would recommend for a hike up Scafell Pike.
