With this being a linear walk you either need 2 cars or use the bus service. The bus from Pooley Bridge down to Patterdale is the 108 which runs every 2 hours. The ridge is a wide grassy ridge that follows the line of the old Roman road called High Street which ran between Ambleside and Penrith then on towards Hadrians Wall.
