This is a hard walk on good paths and tracks with steep inclines and declines. The walk follows a circular route from a parking area on Walna Scar road. It sets off in a westerly direction along Walna Scar road itself, before turning northwards to start the real climbing over Brown Pike, Buck Pike and Dow Crag. The walk drops down to Goat's Hawse before heading to the summit of the Old Man of Coniston, known by many as Coniston Old Man. From the summit there are excellent panoramic views of all surrounding hills and fells. From the summit, the walk zig-zags down to Low Water before returning to the parking area where you started.

what an amazing trail to hike. Would advise to go anti clockwise, clombing to Low Water and up, even thought the step like terrain is hard work the decent past Goats Water is a nicer down hill and as climbed after rain it was a safer bet. Even with low cloud the hike is great. Some parts do require some climbing over rocks on both paths.

Went the anti-clockwise direction - the developing views of Coniston on the way up are fantastic. The route down in this direction I think will be less painful on the legs and the last mile allows for a wonderful stretch along the track.

Great trail, we went right off the car park and definitely ended up regretting it mid way up as it was mostly a steep incline to the top with little variation, but enjoyable nonetheless (with breaks taken). Stunning views, ended up having a (windy) picnic near the lake. Walking boots definitely needed, plus lots of water, and versatile clothing as even though it was a beautifully sunny day, the wind at the peak made us very cold. Would advise others to be cautious while parking as it’s very rough and bumpy, I ended up scratching the bottom of my car on the way out.

Fantasic trail to the summit of Old Man Conistion. We took the dog and he loved it! Make sure you are adequately dressed...we saw lots of people without backpacks (no water?!?) and unsuitable footwear. There are lots of slate shingles so walking boots are advised. There's a stunning tarn just down from the trig point which is well worth a visit.

had a nice sunny day. took the dog. the walk was great and the views from the top were fantastic. make sure you take a waterproof because the weather can be very changeable at the top. all in all a fun walk and one very tired dog.
