Walking

Great walk, moderate inclines and paths throughout. Beautiful views of the castle and the lake with plenty of places to stop for lunch or have a break. A little bit busy at times but expected given the sights. Would throughly recommend.

First to Review

Really lovely laid back and quiet walk. The footpaths are well maintained and easy to follow, a mixture of stone, gravel and grass. Going anticlockwise the walk takes you up and through a gorgeous pine forest which opens up and rewards you with a spectacular views of the surrounding peaks and then leads down towards Windermere. Wray Castle itself has a cafe (national trust prices) with some picnic benches out the front. The route back is gentle with clear paths through fields with some livestock. Hawkshead itself is a pretty little village with a number small shops and cafes offering the best of local produce and souvenirs.
