Friar’s Crag is a 1.7 mile out and back trail located near Keswick, Cumbria, England that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, trail running, and nature trips.
Easy stroll along the shore of Derwent Water on smooth multi-use trail. Could be used for carriages or wheelchairs. Wonderful view of lake and Catbells mountains beyond the lake. Many choose to do this walk on a clear summer night to see the stars spread out across the sky and reflected in the lake below. From Keswick town, walk down towards the Theatre by the Lake, which will be on your left as you pass it. Then continue straight on, on an un-surfaced track to the bench end of Friars Crag. This is your star gazing spot. Lay a blanket on the bench and take in the views of the wide open sky reflected in the lake. Return the way you came.
Nice easy flat trail. Wear waterproof boots. I enjoyed the town part of the walk as well as the nature.
It was a lovely walk. A little boring to start with but soon got lovely and scenic
Very nice walk, with some good options for lunch at the easten end. At the time.of year we need the hike (Early Sep) the path at the eastern end was underwater so additional distance along the road to the village. Would do the walk again.
