Trial starts gradual, but even given the time of year once i reached the lighthouse I changed into my lightweight trousers. I’m on day 6 and currently haven’t needed my warm gear at all. The shop in cleator is closed due to Covid, and the climb up dent was a shock, ‘’ don’t know why considering lol.... at ennerdale bridge I stopped at the tea room which closes at 4 but was able tonget a brew and a scone and charge my phone... I pushed on from there to get to the end of ennerdale water and camped there... word of caution Robin Hood’s Chair is tretorious
day 2 the Dent was closed due to forest operation. hiked over cold fell. added about 1 mile to hike, but easier climbs. weather is perfect hiking temp.
Started from the Irish Sea at St Bees on July 11, 2018. A beautiful walk along the coastline past the lighthouse. We could see the Isle of Man off the coast. We headed inland through pastures then along a rail line to a path into Cleator. The steep climb started after Cleator leading up a steep dirt road near forest clear cutting fields. Afterwards there was a final steep trail up to the top of the hill that could be seen from Cleator. There were two cairns at this spot. From there we headed across the rolling hilltop to a steep rough downhill into the valley that led northward to Ennerdale.
