Nice short walk. Steep ascent from right side path that puts your fitness to the test. Then a scramble up a slate path which is treacherous under foot. Excellent views from the summit looking towards Derwent water. Great shelter behind monument at summit for a cup of tea if the weather is against you. The way back down takes you along the left side path over a field which is easier walking. You may decide to take that route up instead of the harder, steeper path.

Awesome little trail.. we squeezed this one in at the end of an incredible weekend in the Lakes ... this place is stunning, Borrowdale is lovely , you are surrounded by beautiful views, in literally every direction .. Castle Crag itself is like something from another planet it’s like been on a film set ... absolutely awesome!!

First to Review

Very steep (due to taking a different path up through forrest). Took my toddler, bit difficult at times for her but she managed it. Lots and lots of sheep- dog on lead for most parts. Very beautiful part of the lakes with stunning views. Car park is national trust if you have a members card
