Blencathra and Blease Fell is a 8.6 mile loop trail located near Keswick, Cumbria, England that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips.
Not a bad route, some parts treacherous Due to icy/snowy conditions but to be expected.
The trail starts by crossing a few waterfalls and gently hugging the side of Scales Fell uphill towards Scale Tarn. Then it’s time to mentally prepare for Sharp Edge which although shorter, is harder/scarier than Striding Edge. Once composure is regained, the meander to Blencathra Summit and along the ridge joins a descent down Blease Fell which can be steep at certain parts. The walk through Threlkeld town at the end provides a couple of pubs to celebrate the death-defying hike - which would not be recommended in anything other than good conditions. Enjoy !
A great loop with nice views and paths most of the way round. Some parts are slightly boggy and overgrown. We went in reverse and down the easier alternative route to scales tarn. Sharp edge didn’t look too scary so we’ll be back another time to conquer it.
Great trail! It’s worth noting that you can easily avoid sharp edge if you want to. We completed the trail in reverse and wild camped at scales tarn. We didn’t do sharp edge this time but we will definitely return to do it!
completed majority of the trail, however started out from Scales and did not trek through Threlkeld. choosing to stay up on the track and skip the town. path is very well signed and easy to follow. conditions are great now even with the recent rain over the past couple of days.
Started in the car park by the pub and went down the lane until we hit the second car park. From here we took a left which took us through the valley. The path was a bit rocky in parts but it was generally good. By the waterfall the path goes up which is a bit steep. Once you follow this through you’ll eventually hit the tarn which was nice to have a little break. Sharp edge is on the right but we went up on the left. It’s not a very long walk but it’s steep and the gradient is high. It’s really rocky in parts and it’s easy to send rocks flying down (which can be an issue if someone is walking behind you). The views at the top were amazing. The way down is pretty standard. Once you get near the pub again there’s a really steep hill to go down
