This walk starts from the car park of the Heron Corn Mill ( £1 donation). Heron Corn Mill ceased trading in 1955 but is now a working museum open Wednesday to Sunday 11:00 - 4:00. There has been a corn mill on this site since 1220. Inside you can inspect the water-wheel and the apparatus of milling the corn. The original tower of St Michael and  All Angels  in Beetham was of Saxon origin and their is also evidence of Norman architecture. Beetham Hall has a 'pele' tower built in the c15 to repel marauding Scots. There are others in the area as at Hazelslack and Arnside Tower. On reaching the 'Fairy-Steps'  the view of the surrounding area is much appreciated after exiting the tunnel-like paths. The steps are a very polished fissure and very narrow but easily negotiated. The open ground around Haverbrack gives extensive views over the Kent estuary towards the Lakeland and Howgill Fells. Dallam Tower is the residence of the Wilson family and was built in 1720. The park has a large herd of fallow deer. Fallow deer were introduced to Britain by the Romans.
