pub walk

A circular pub walk from The Green Man in Denham, Buckinghamshire. The Green Man sits in the heart of Denham village, an idyllic setting, offering walkers a warm welcome with honest, home-made food, four real ales and a large garden. This is a gem of a walking route with water and wildlife in abundance, enjoying sections of Denham Country Park, the Grand Union Canal, the River Colne and the Colne Valley Trail. The walk is relatively flat with only a few gentle gradients, plus one short steep slope up to a canal bridge. Most of the paths are wide, easy walking, but there is one stretch that is narrow between undergrowth (so shorts are not recommended unless you are immune to nettles!) and some of the woodland stretches can be very muddy after periods of rain and in winter. There are no stiles or livestock on route, but you will need to negotiate several kissing gates, footbridges and steps. You will cross a golf course for one short stretch, so allow golfers to play their shots before you cross and watch out for any stray flying golf balls. Allow 2.5 hours.

Really easy route, perfect for family outing with beautiful sites in every weather. I found plenty of mushrooms along the track. Denham is probably the nicest little village I've ever seen and Green Man Pub is really something you wouldn't want to miss, with delicious Sunday roast, great selection of draught beers, moderate prices and excellent service.

A good level of shade and almost flat all the way round. Lots of water to see in various guises. We ended our walk just a few steps on from the pub at the Church and enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea outside the Vestry in their beautiful rose garden - currently available on summer Sundays between 3 and 5pm.

Lovely spring around. Fantastic track for afternoon walk.

Nice flat 'ish' walk, wellingtons are adviseable for wet winter season as muddy terrain is prevalent, beautiful water scenery...

A great, varied, level walk - will repeat. Instructions a bit ambiguous in a couple of places but the blue dots on the map got us back on track.
