Getting There

A circular pub walk from The Green Man in Denham, Buckinghamshire. The Green Man sits in the heart of Denham village, an idyllic setting, offering walkers a warm welcome with honest, home-made food, four real ales and a large garden. This is a gem of a walking route with water and wildlife in abundance, enjoying sections of Denham Country Park, the Grand Union Canal, the River Colne and the Colne Valley Trail. The walk is relatively flat with only a few gentle gradients. Most of the paths are wide, easy walking, but there is one stretch that is narrow between undergrowth (so shorts are not recommended unless you are immune to nettles!) and some of the woodland stretches can be very muddy after periods of rain and in winter. There are no stiles or livestock on route, but you will need to negotiate several kissing gates, footbridges and steps. You will cross a golf course for one short stretch, so allow golfers to play their shots before you cross and watch out for any stray flying golf balls.

Denham is located about four miles north-west of Uxbridge and just 4 miles north of Junction 1 of the M40. The walk starts and finishes at The Green Man pub, located on Village Road in the centre of the village. There is roadside parking available along the length of Village Road. Approximate post code UB9 5BH. If you are coming by train, adjust the walk by starting and finishing at Denham rail station (close to Waypoint 5), calling at the pub along the way.

It had the potential to be very nice trail. There was a lot of noise coming from the motorway, and a significant part of the route was flooded and the 2 footbridges were damaged and closed. There were too many small flies to the point we had to wear our face masks on (Mar 2021). Will not be returning to this trail.

Thank you for your feedback Stathis. I've redrawn the trail so we avoid those footbridges.

It's a nice little route, I added a 4Km loop on going towards Harefield. I'd wait a few months because a significant part of the route is completely flooded (21 Feb) and the footbridge is damaged. I wouldn't advise anyone to cross it as it is declared unsafe but there's always the option. In the Summer I'd imagine this is much nicer and there's a few pubs in Denham for a post walk pint when we're allowed!

this is being dictated directly into my phone so please forgive any transcription errors! A key bridge is out of of use between waymarks 5 and 6 as you turn off the grand Union canal. the whole area there is flooded (see photo) and basically you have to come back on yourself and eventually just mirror the grand Union canal on the journey back. as and when that bridge is fixed, this it will be a lovely circular loop, with lots of open water and a combination of track and woodlands.

Bridge is broken but passable, but 5 minutes behind the bridge the entire landscape is flooded and unpassable

WalkingGreat!

The trail was easy to follow and plenty of signposts . We also very much enjoyed getting off the trail and explore the eco reserve and “get lost” in the wild! Bridge still closed and that last section closer to Denham station was flooded. A part from this the walk was awesome :)

We really enjoyed the walk. Lots of stinging nettles so watch out. The bridge is still closed (point 5) but carry on down the canal and take a right through the woods and you will get back to the Activity centre cutting off a corner (look at the map). They do great sausage rolls and coffee - good for either end of the walk.
