Getting There

A circular pub walk from the Wheelwrights Arms near Hurst, Berkshire. The Wheelwrights is a regular in the CAMRA good beer guide and holds the cask marque so there are always plenty of good ales to choose from. The walk explores the lakes within the adjacent Dinton Pastures before striking out across local footpaths and lanes. The walk is relatively flat. The paths can get quite muddy and sometimes a little overgrown in places. You will need to negotiate five stiles along the way. There are a few sections of road walking on roads without pavements so take care of traffic at these points. Approximate time 2 to 2.5 hours.

The walk starts and finishes from the Wheelwrights Arms pub on Davis Way, St Nicholas Hurst in Berkshire. Approximate post code RG10 0TR.

Very bland and not pretty. Lots of walking on roads and some are dangerous. Much better walks to pick than this one.

Lovely for kids and dogs. Gravel path. Not too muddy. Some green algae though. Lots to do here. Took a shorter route as had the little one.

A lovely walk and the Castle Inn is a great place to stop for a drink, a bite to eat and the toilet.

The locals would clearly rather you parked in the pay and display car park. I did use the pub car park but felt guilty. It was a weekday and it did not fill up. Wouldn't want to hog a space at the weekend though. The country park is beautiful, best bit of the walk. My wife didn't like all the sections of road to walk on and the last few minutes alongside the A329M is unpleasant. Other than that a lovely walk. ADMIN RESPONSE: As with all iFootpath pub walks, the walk has been published at the request of the pub (in this case via CAMRA). The pubs are happy for your to use their car parks as long as you call in for a drink or bite before or after your walk. Glad you enjoyed most of the route.
