Getting There

Note: Users have reported that the section of this route that travels along M4 is currently closed until March 2021. A circular pub walk from Boulters Lock in Maidenhead on the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire border. Boulters Lock, close to the start of the walk, is a pub and restaurant sitting at an idyllic spot on the River Thames, making the perfect spot for refreshments before or after your walk. The walking trail takes in the beautiful areas of country park within the modern Taplow Riverside estate, with the longer trail following riverside paths alongside the Jubilee River and River Thames. This walk includes a stretch of riverside path which is open from 7am to dusk (but locked outside these times). The walk is relatively flat with only a few gentle slopes. There are no stiles or steps on route, you will only need to negotiate footbridges and some elongated accessible kissing gates (these have space for buggies to pass through). The shorter walk follows pavements plus surfaced paths through the country park areas, meaning it would be suitable for pushchairs or mobility buggies. The longer route has some stretches of unmade paths that can be muddy and has a couple of road crossings that need care. There is no livestock on route. Dogs are welcome throughout the walk and there are plenty of dog waste bins in the country park. Allow 3 hours.

The walk starts and finishes at the Boulters Lock public car park, located on the riverside A4094 Lower Cookham Road (close to the junction with Lock Avenue). The car park is pay and display (and managed by the local council). The fee for over 3 hours is £1.00 (correct Feb 2019). Approximate post code SL6 8JB.

Easy walk, virtually flat the entirety of the route. A couple of muddy patches after Bray lock. Would recommend it on a sunny clear day - cold or warm! Highlights are the waterside houses in Bray over the river, enviable! extremely peaceful route except crossing over the A4.

Very nice walk though along suburban paths and bit of Thames path. Bit muddy at places but otherwise in good condition.

Good level walk. But the section close to the M4 is CLOSED until March 2021! No notification until you get to the path, so you have to backtrack. I suggest you walk down Marsh Lane and Old Marsh Lane (depending on direction of travel. Good tea and cake at Lake House Cafe next to Taplow Lake !!

Good walk. We think there’s a section that can be accessed due to roadworks after you leave the Jubilee river footpath but we could well have missed the sign. Lovely sunny walk, plenty of opportunities to stop for picnic.

We thoroughly enjoyed this walk. Was nice and varied, interesting bits. Took us 2.5 hrs. Dog friendly. Would definitely do it again.

A few small parts of the walk were pretty. Otherwise it was very noisy - you could always hear very busy roads. Not a bad walk, could have been nice without all of the urban sounds, but just was quite a disappointment
