Slåensø is normally considered for the Silkeborg Islands, although it is only connected to Borre Sø by a drain at Millingbæk. It only has streams of water from a number of orthodox sources on the south side, and at their expiration you can see in some places sump-like red deposits. With the limited water supply, the lake has very clean water. The sources have also helped to name the lake. Originally called Slaugen Lake, where the "Slaughter" originates from the Old Norse "Slaughter", which means "jumping". The lake is in a very hilly terrain, and the lake reaches a depth of up to 12 meters. It is a favorite excursion with the royal chair (82 m high) immediately south of Slåensø, from which there is a nice view north over the lake and Borresø Slåensø regnes normalt til Silkeborgsøerne, skønt den kun er forbundet til Borre Sø af et afløb ved Millingbæk.
