Path to Lava Arenal is a 2.6 mile point-to-point trail located near San Carlos, Alajuela, Costa Rica that offers scenic views and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is best used from December until April.

Part of the $15 Arenal ecológica park. Asked guide if 2 hours would do it. We were at top at the end in 35 minutes as we did the wide path meant for cars. No animals. Great bird sounds. Cloud cover over Arenal. Running. G shoes or chacos suffice.

This is one of several trails around the base of Arenal. The others are located in the national park where you pay $15 USD per person. You also have to pay $15 USD per person to access these trails. There is an easy path to the lava field and a more difficult path along the lagoon then a steep incline up to the lava field. It’s a pretty good work out.
