Desolation Pass is a 12.6 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Puerto Varas, Los Lagos, Chile that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, camping, and backpacking and is best used from October until March.
Great trail and really well marked. Once the sun cleared later in the morning, there were great views of Osorno Volcano on one side and Todos los Santos Lake on the other. A lot of the trail is sandy so be prepared for that. On the way back I turned left at the Los Alerces Intersection and did the extra loop by the lake. There are some nice black-sand beaches with not a lot of tourists (especially further away from the trailhead).
Great trail - beautiful scenery. Views of Osorno volcano are stunning. Fortunate that we had perfect weather for this hike.
