Pleasant (dog friendly!) nature walk with a couple nice vistas. Arrive before 10a for an easier time parking.

Nature tripsGreat!

Great variation in landscape and lots of hills to climb for those who appreciate getting their blood pumping. Feels like you’re out in the country while only being minutes from the city.

Really liked the vast views of water and trees. Huts built along the way were pretty to look at. Beginner trails available but also more moderate with the large hills.

Avoid this trail. Loaded with Deer Ticks. Two dogs and one human in our group got them during our hike this last Thursday. Too bad because the trail itself is nice. There is also a warning posted that a bear has been seen in the area.

Walking

Muddy in spots, icy in others but in pretty decent condition all-around. I would suggest AllTrails amend the extended loop to my recording here (apologies for the straight lines, I had power save mode on due to low battery). It actually loops the Mast section and re-treads a lot less trail than the suggested route that extends further on Mast to the Pickering parking lot. This recording also takes you on the workout hill twice for those that want the cardio :D

HikingIcy

Great views from the platform on Vista trail. It gets a bit icy in places so I'm glad that I brought my spikes. The hydro corridor isn't as nice but we are in an Urban National Park. The Mast trail, south of the Twyn Rivers Rd, is fantastic. So many tall trees that replaced the ones harvested for ship masts over a century ago. Some good up and down sections to warm you up on a cold March day. Parking is limited tho there are a few lots along the length of the trail.

HikingIcy

This is an absolutely gorgeous hike any time of year. However recent weather changes have severely affected trail conditions. Definitely need micro spikes and trekking poles. Forest trails are extremely icy and hills can be quite dangerous. Trails that get more sun are a muddy mess. Give it a few weeks and I’m sure everything will be dried out !
