Middle Head Trail is a 2.8 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Ingonish Beach, Nova Scotia, Canada that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Interpretive loop that follows along a narrow peninsula and offers great coastal scenery. There are a number of scenic lookouts and areas to explore. The trail is mostly level with some rocky sections. For up to date information on this trail, please see the park site here: https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/ns/cbreton/activ/randonnee-hiking/middlehead
Be prepared. Icy on northeast side of peninsula. Packed snow and ice. Take crampons or it’s gonna be a difficult hike back to trail head.
Signs to Keltic lodge didn't match app directions. App refused to send Lifeline despite connectivity. Part I did was beautiful but part to lodge in park, not in app, had deep snow, no human footprints.
amazing in wintertime! Didn't see anybody. little piece of heaven on earth!
Nice little hike out to the point. Great views along the way too.
I will assume the loop is fine. the odd rock and root. the straight out and in is heavily rocked and rooted. not for those with poor depth perception and fear of misstepping. down hill was horrible. up hill was better because I was more sure of my footing. next time I will do with proper hiking boots and a walking pole.
A really beautiful and easy hike. there were lots of lookouts just off the trail and it’s easy to stay and take photos. I would recommend doing Franey and Middlehead together as a nice hiking morning or afternoon.
