McNabs Island is the larger of two islands located in McNabs and Lawlor Island provincial Park, in the harbour between Halifax and Dartmouth. The island is 5km long and about 1.5km wide and offers historical and natural features, as well as educational and recreational opportunities. The main consideration when visiting McNabs is the necessity to arrive by either commercial or private boat. The island offers numerous hiking trails, and visitors can spend the night if they call the DNR site in Waverley for a permit.

Great trail! Plenty of places to stop and take in the view, great beach walks. Nice and easy walk, but bring lots of bug spray and a sweater for the boat ride!

Awesome remote spot. Easy access with Taylor Made Tours 902-448-4982, out of Eastern Passage. Captain Steve was accommodating and so easy to deal with highly recommend.

We went to McNabs for an overnight camping trip and it was great! The water taxi picked us up in Eastern Passage and brought us to a beach on the island. We hiked the whole island and got to see many cool things (fort, battery, cannons). Highly recommend this trip :)

know before you go! 1. you can only arrive here by boat. so plan ahead 2. bad back or weak ankles? maybe not ideal. there are several areas where you are walking on beach stones. 3. watch the weather! trails/paths flood easily. and if winds are too high, some boats won't take you. 4. the fort is nice but no reenactments like at the citadel. 5. overall it was a nice "walk in the woods and harbor view.
