Porcupine Mountain is home to some of the highest elevations in the province. Hart Mountain, located within the Porcupine Provincial Forest, is the second highest elevation in the province measuring 823 metres (2700 ft). At the top of the mountain you will find an active trappers cabin and government operated weather station. Please respect the property and enjoy the moment of being at the second highest point in Manitoba (which is only 9 meters lower then its rival, Baldy Mountain). This multi-use trail is not maintained, therefore use at own risk. Because of possible logging operations, be sure to contact the nearest government office for updated information before using this trail. In addition, there are several stream/river crossings along this trail, please respect these areas and minimize impacts as much as possible. Note; the Birch River crossing can be dangerous when water levels are high. This can occur both during spring runoff and after heavy rains and extra caution should be used.
