Getting There

A 4km loop trail with an option for a turnoff to do a shorter 2km loop. An enjoyable, easy trail for families with Kinasao lake as a scenic destination. Minimal undulation and drier than the nearby arrowhead trail. Approximately a 1 hour investment at a medium pace with young children. The trail is two loops leading through the peaceful forest to Kinosao Lake. The trail is fairly easy and flat with no elevation gain or uphill sections. Right before reaching the lake, you cross a lovely boardwalk section of the trail, which makes for some beautiful photos. Kinosao Lake is a gem. In the early morning, the water is so calm and the atmosphere is so serene. You can sometimes hear loons. There is always a canoe laying under a tree at the edge of the water by the dock with paddles and life jackets underneath it. There are also great views of the lake (and photo opportunities) right after crossing the boardwalk heading back on the trail, with a bench positioned along the water. Would highly recommend hiking this trail, especially in the early morning when you will experience the tranquility at the lake. Gorgeous place!

There is an outhouse for men/women at the trailhead, as well as a canoe with a couple of paddles at the Kinasao lake dock.

Head north past Wasagaming townsite and clear lake golf course. Take hwy 19 east for a short distance before finding Brule trailhead on the Left (North) side of the gravel road.

Trail was very scenic and very easy to follow. Lots of mosquitoes, but this was expected. Loved resting at the dock and the canoe was a nice surprise. Awesome trail. Perfect length.

The mosquitoes were terrible while walking through the bush. Once we got to the lake the breeze seemed to keep them away and it was beautiful. We took a quick dip in the lake off the dock and then relaxed on the dock for a bit watching the minnows. Our four year old came with us. She walked most of the first half of the hike but was done with the mosquitoes for the second half and ended up getting a piggy back most of the way. Quick, easy hike with nice scenery. This is a fav of ours. We will be back again, our daughter wants to picnic at the lake next time.

Easy trail with a few ups and downs. Beautiful scenery. Lake at the end is gorgeous. But it can not be underestimated how bad the mosquitoes are. Make sure to bring bug spray!

I hiked the Brule Trail on July 11, 2020 in the morning. It was a 4.5 km loop to Kinosao Lake and back. The trail followed through forest and was nicely shaded. There were some gentle ups and downs but the terrain was overall pretty level. There was an option for a 2.2 km short loop that would skip the lake and the turnaround point was well marked. The trail led a wooden boardwalk which followed along the shore of Kinosao Lake and then arrived at the lake. I love the boardwalk area and it was very pretty! The lake had a dock and a canoe is always stashed under the tree beside the dock (with life jackets) for anyone to take out. Kinosao Lake is gorgeous and peaceful and is one of my favourite lakes! The reflections on the water made for good photos. The trail then follows back through the forest and through some open grassy areas. The mosquitoes were relentless and vicious!! There were swarms of them following me at all times and if I stopped moving, they attacked. This was not fun! There were also some muddy and wet sections which were easy to navigate. Overall, the hike was good and I always love the lake destination but I will come back again in the fall for a more peaceful and enjoyable experience without the bugs.

Just an update from the reviews below! The fallen trees are now cleared but still a few muddy patches. The bugs were STILL a problem though even with insect repellent. We weren’t able to stop and and enjoy the trail without getting smothered by bugs. Enjoyed the lake and canoe at the end of the trail!

This is a nice trail with lots of shade and a nice boardwalk by the lake near the middle of the trail! However due to the recent rain, there are a few flooded and muddy spots and a few large trees fallen over the trail that you will need to climb over so may not be ideal for small kids until it is cleaned up! Bugs were there but not too bad when wearing bug spray

Hiked it today. Nice and clear, firm underfoot. Lovely easy walking. Nice that you can choose from 2 different loops, and about 5 different trails from the same parking lot with another one just across the road

HikingSnow

Very nice trail. Lots of deadfall and the snow is quite deep making it more of a moderate trail due to conditions. I snowshoed the long loop and really enjoyed Kinosao Lake and the boardwalk. Trekking poles and snowshoes a must. I saw lots of wildlife. Two does, a mink, a fox and wolves heard. Signs of bears still active however I didn’t see any. I’ll be doing this trail again in the warmer months to enjoy the sights a bit more.

Snowshoes recommended. Some blown down trees from the recent storm to scramble over. 6-8" of snow on the trail. Bears are active, so be prepared.
