Hiked into PCT camp July 25. After setting up camp, went up Windy Joe and thought I could have totally set up camp in the ranger station! Really beautiful up there. Bugs were bad around 5pm so didnt take too long up and rushed back to camp. The incline is killer with all your overnight gear and food and water.

Pretty easy hike, and well marked. I’ve only hiked it once in the summer, but have snowshoed it twice.

Had I done this hike before skyline I may have rated it higher. It was a good climb up with an incline most of the way. Ok view at the top but couldn’t see a lot due to trees. Lots of bugs, a few muddy spots and looks like they’ve cleared out the fallen trees. Great that they have to toilet up there and was fun to sit in the wood structure and eat lunch. You kinda had to so you weren’t eaten alive by bugs. Pretty flowers along the way with butterflies and saw a momma and a few baby grouses. Wide trails and mostly east to walk with a few streams along the way. Decent hike.

Was there June 29. Blowdown trees all cleared. Easier trail in that not super steep anywhere but still beautiful at top. Would have given it 5 but summit just at tree line not above, which I prefer. Still good views as trees are sparse. Fire lookout tower was interesting.

Did the trail June 30. One small tree down near the start but otherwise in good condition. Trail is wide and smooth. Could be done in runners. Took us 3 hours total with a snack break at the top. Tons of bugs at the summit and a surprise outhouse just before the summit. Beware of the bees about halfway up. Gorgeous views from the second floor of the lookout tower.

As mentioned previously there are still a number of trees along the path but not too hard to navigate as of June 13. Good hike, steady incline after an easy first couple km. Took us 4 1/2 hours with lunch and pictures. Moving time was only 3 1/2 hours.

Great conditions minus the couple (or 10) trees you had to get over. Nothing too crazy though. Apparently trail maintenance will make their way through in the next couple weeks to clean up all the downed trees. I'd be sure to throw some bug spray on as the first 2/3KM's were mosquito central!

I did it on May 3rd. Very good conditions. Snow starts at 3/4km but hard packed if you stay in the middle.

Did it on 4/20/19. Trail was covered with compacted snow and the trail is very easy to follow. I used microspikes and a little bit of snowshoes while coming down.

Hiked up March 9th weekend. 2 hrs up with 40 pound packs, so not bad. Not too busy, only 3 parties coming down. Stayed in the hut, nice and cosy. Snow shoes really only required if you step off trail so nice to have with in case.

snowshoed this trail Jan 27th, trail was packed down well but still recommend snowshoes. not many people on it at all (saw about 9 the whole time) on a beautiful sunny days. great views at the top! the elevation graph on here has some sort of error, there isn't a massive decline/incline like it suggests

More snow coming soon, but old layers were packed enough today to boot almost the entire way up on solid snow (you will posthole if offtrail though). Fresh powder nearer the top and a few little sticks of blowdown. Snowshoed down. Nice lookout tower with pleasant views. A few other groups but far from a gong show for a Saturday outing.

Jan 14, 2019 - Packed Snow - 2 hours 10 minutes Up & 1 hour 45 minutes Down - Recommend Snowshoes - Not an intense trail, gradual consistent grade. Great views at the top.

I loved!! It’s a amazing place, recommend you to go when it is sunny and open sky. Bring handwarmers and extra clothes. Also snowshoe and spikes are necessary.

Left from the bridge on the way to lightning lakes. Easy going, but obscured view due to wildfires. Tons of wildlife activity in the first few kms, but didn't meet anything dangerous on the trail. Looking forward to the view without the smoke

great 1/2 day hike, 8.2 km one way, took us 3.5 hours to hike up, smoke from wild fires obscured the view so we will definitely do it again when there is a good view,

Hiked to windy joe two weeks ago. Challenging as you go straight up to get to the top. Once we were on the top the look out was locked, so we were not able to check it out.

good in the summer or winter. moderate and consistent grade with nice wide path. in the winter snow shoe or tour up and stay the night in the fire lookout at the top. not much for views on the way up.
