HikingGreat!Rocky

As of today, this trail has been rerouted to avoid the rougher trails running closer to the cabins. Please pay no heed to the previous reviews, including ours, as they refer to the old trail. This new loop is great! These are three particularly nice lakes and being able to visit them all in a nice short loop is perfect. Many of the trails found here are X country ski runs; however the West Lake and Baden Powell trails leading to Blue Gentian Lake are not and they are both on the rougher side. The Baden Powell also has a section running over slippery and jagged rocks. This hike still deserves an easy rating but it should only be done in summer. It is also not recommended for children. For a family friendly trail that is great for snowshoes and year round use, check out West Lake via Hollyburn Trail. It starts from the same trailhead.

Hiking

This is an easy, almost moderate hike that visits West Lake, Blue Gentian Lake and First Lake in a nice loop. Several of the trails are X country ski runs so very wide, open, and not difficult. Sinclair Way is different than the other trails along this hike. It is lightly travelled and crosses right in front of many cabins. It can be tricky to figure out which way to go around the cabins at a couple of points. If you prefer to avoid the cabins, there are two options: 1) Turn left on Hollyburn Fire Access Road and go straight to First Lake 2) Start the hike at the main trailhead by the Nordic Cafe. Take the Hollyburn trail to First Lake and then follow the trail from there Either way, this is an enjoyable hike.

First to Review

Poor trail makers, easy to get lost. lots of small private cabins all through the area. Trails would be incredibly muddy if you went up during a rainy period. It had been dry for weeks and it was still bad for us. Some areas are overgrown, lots or roots.
