Really enjoyed this trail! We stuck to the map, the signs weren’t really reliable for this. Lots of variety in the scenery, I feel like we walked through 6 different kinds of forest. High traffic for the first and last bits, very off-the-beaten-path and shady for the majority. We went on a Sunday at 8am, parked in the main lot and began with the east side of the trail. Fitbit recorded 9km and I’d definitely say it’s a moderate trail.

Overall the trail was awesome. It’s a bit challenging for new hikers. The only thing with this trail here is even if it’s called Upper Thetis lake Trail, use your map to see where you are going because just following the signs of UTL trail you will get lost. This is why this trail is 7.7 km versus the 5.5 km of the actual Upper Thetis Lake trail. If you want to stay and go the Upper Thetis Lake trail just follow the sign and you will be fine.

HikingPrivate property

I started in downtown Victoria and followed the E&N Railway. From there I went through Thetis Lake Park to Westwood. From there I headed to Munn Road following the power line. However, there were a couple Private Property signs. I had to go through to meet my ride home on Munn Road. Other than that, I loved the hike and it had a nice mix of road/paved trail and forested rocky trails.

Nice trail with beautiful views of the lake. But the directions to the trailhead from the app didn’t lead to the parking lot but just marked a spot on the highway next to the lake. This should be fixed!

At some points not a good trail for an old dog. Had a hard time with the gps. You can’t really get lost just confused.

Very beautiful views (lots of money shots) around the lake. has a lot of ups and downs but nothing we couldnt handle (family with two 8 year olds). Really cool all the little bits of the lake that are hidden around bends as well.

Great trail suitable for almost any fitness level. Well maintained and well marked. Busy on sunny days and weekends but you can always find a private spot to enjoy a tranquil moment.

Gorgeous greenery at this time of year, a little light rain usually keeps most people to the walking trails, which means more solitary time on the hiking trails. Only negative is hearing traffic.
