This is the trail that starts at 'BaseCamp' of the Sea to Sky Gondola. This is Gondola's version of Sea to Sky. It is a young trail but well marked. Although this trail starts at the bottom of the gondola, it connects to 'The Chief' trail for the start portion of it before splitting off. Tougher than the Grind, especially if you come back down the trail. Some parts are a bit of a scramble and washed out with logs. Lots of steep parts and fun rope pulls to give you a good variety. You will get to a selection point near the top to decide if you want to take the longer 'easy' trail or shorter 'hard' trail. The hard trail is fairly steep and and may make you wish you picked the easier one. You can hike up and just pay for a 'Download' pass. You can also climb up and access other trails at the top including viewing trails and backcountry access trails. Dogs are NOT allowed on trail except the one leading to lodge from base camp.

I wish there was "Godlike" rating for this trail. "Hard" rating is kind of injustice to this trail. We went in on this trail thinking if we could do mason lake and serene lake this should be doable too but we were wrong. I took us around 3 hours to reach the summit even though its just 4.5 miles.

Beautiful hike. Most beautiful views. I love endurance based ascends that get the heart pumping but there were a couple of sections where my heart was pumping not because of cardio... a couple of sections need ropes and have none. Didn’t enjoy that scramble. Otherwise I’d give it 5 stars but I think safety could be improved.

Loved it. Challenging as it’s steep in parts. Overall well worth it!

Really fun scramble. Ropes “required,” but wearing grippy hiking shoes or approach shoes, didn’t need them. Seems overrated for what it is. much prefer Stawamus Chief and surrounding trails: loads of via Ferrata- a candy store for the adrenaline junky. See my review for route details.

The best hike. Kids and dog like it too. Took gondola down , pay 15$ for adults and dog. So worth of money than knee pain.

Great hike, well marked, food and drinks at the top, epic views and a ride back down...no excuse to miss leg day.

amazing views, challenging trail, less crowded than most local trails. trail is 7.5km one way and would be a challenge going down so the tram down is worth the $15. dogs could do the trail but keep them on a leash, especially near the falls. sadly a sign to leash your dog had to be made because an owner didn't have common sense. dogs are not allowed near the Cafe building either.

Well marked, surprisingly busy hike and a very good workout. Took us just under3 hrs with a couple stops. 7.5 km one way. Took the gondola down.

Great hike! Very well marked, and definitely not a boring hike! You get great views and close to Shannon falls, hike under the gondola at some points. There are short rock faces where there are ropes to assist. Quite steep but parts where it evens out.
We are relatively fit and it took us exactly 3hrs one way up. Best part is there is ice cream up at the top of the gondola! And an awesome view obviously :)

great hike and some amazing views along the way!

Great trail with lots of different terrain, just don’t miss the sea to sky turn off or you’ll end up climbing the chief and the sea to sky all in one day!

Great trail, lots of variety with rope pulls, stairs, and light scrambling in sections. Heavy trail traffic along portion that follows the Chief but dispersed afterwards. Well-marked, in great condition, and various viewpoints along the way. Completed in just under 2.5hrs with minimal stops. Opportunity to explore other trails and activities at the top. Take the gondola down for $15.00, would not advise taking trail.

Super rewarding hike! I honestly believe the stairs are the worst part. The ropes on the rock sections are lots of fun and I did it all in a pair of running shoes! Took me about 3 hours and took the gondola down for $15 because my legs were dead. Best of luck!

Hiked this on May 5, 2018. A bit of compact snow probably pass 6 km. No need for snow shoes or crampons. I hiked this with my hiking shoes but your runners with a good grip will work too. Good long hike. Well marked. Great view up top and there’s plenty of food at the lodge. 15$ to ride the gondola down.

I did this trail last summer and it was amazing. It wasn’t like the grouse grind. It is less stairs and more of an uphill walk. There are parts that make you use your arms to pull you over rocks and sometimes there are ropes too. That’s why I like this trail. It is not that busy too. You start the trail on the chief so it is busy but this trail cuts out of the crowd after 20 minutes. It takes an average person about 3-3.5 hours but I did it in just over 3 hours.

If you are fit this is a lovely hike. Yes it’s hard at the start but if you take your time to enjoy the views it makes for a great day. Costs $15 to take the gondola down which is worth it not to twist an ankle.

The hike started abit crazy at first. Felt grouse grind all over due to the stairs. Although once you get to the chief/sea to summit separation section everything changes. So far the most amazing hike I have ever done. I really took my time and enjoyed every bit of it.
There are a couple sections thou, the loose rock section and the rope climbing one are not all easy. The last section with the rock was alittle insane to me. Did it in April so the last 25% was full of snow. Be careful as some sections get really deep.
All and all this was an amazing hike for a moderate level hiker, well worth exploring before hitting harder hikes.

First 30 minutes quite tough then eases up a bit and then becomes harder halfway to the finish. 7.5 km to the gondola one way. Worth every huff and puff.

Wonderful challenge! No two steps are the same. Be prepared to use your mind, body, and spirit for this hike. There are some really cool views of the Howe Sound and Shannon Falls.

Did this one a couple months ago and loved the challenge. Was even better the second time as I knew what to expect. Took 3 hours motoring pretty fast. It is difficult - long, scrambling, inclines. But not impossible. It's nice how it repeatedly challenges you and then evens out for a bit. Eat a good breakfast and bring lots of water. I went through 3L. Worth the beer and view at the end!

Beautiful hike with a gorgeous view on top! The first part with the stairs is quite hard and you have to keep energy for the rest!
We did the hike between 3:30pm and 7pm and stayed at the top of the mountain for the sunset, which was a spectacular and memorable moment! we went down with the gondola.
Amazing hike that I strongly recommand!

Note: Not really out and back (take the $15 Gondola down - too dangerous to hike down), and it's 7.5km one way, not 11 out and back. But it's super beautiful and super difficult. Bring plenty of water & snacks and wear good hiking shoes/boots. There are some seriously challenging sections involving scrambling up steep, loose rocks/boulders, chains and ropes to pull yourself along steep embankments, and lots of ladders and inclines. But it's also the most beautiful hike I've ever done. The terrain changes so much and the top of Shannon Falls is gorgeous. Lots to do up top - eat, grab a beer, throw axes, and there's lots more trails from there if your body can handle it. Tough but rewarding as hell :)

This trail was amazing!!! It had a bit of everything. It has several sections that climb for a long ways but each seemed to be separated by stretches that allowed you to catch your breath. A couple waterfalls along the way and a very peaceful setting! One of my favorite BC hikes I've done!

One of the best hikes I've done so far. This hike has everything. Tough at the start as you start on chief but amazing views at several spots along the way. The stops at shannon falls waterfall are amazing. The view at the top is breathtaking. This hike isn't for the faint hearted have enough water and supplies.
