Hike to the falls is groomed and well traveled. The hike it’s self is fairly easy, just long 8km to the falls. Mostly forest covered trail with a little bit of open parts along the mountains. Amazing views. Recommend for a nice long family hike with the dog.

we went to the lower lookout. 1800 foot elevation gain. 9 km from the rangers cabin. awesome views. I would call it a moderate hike, not hard and I am 63.

we drove from Edmonton ab and hiked all our camp gear the 1 km in to the camp site on lower elk lake. the hike took us is abou 16km to petain falls and back. there is the option of also visiting the basin. you can get really close to petain falls is crazy powerful! the hike there is groomed and beautiful. you walk along upper elk lake into the forest through fields of wild flowers and finally along the rocks for the water fall.

Awesome trail! We hiked to Elk Lake for camping from the Kananaskis side, set up camp and headed to the falls. It took about 2 hours each way.
