Amazing view of Shawnigan Lake and once you get to the top you can also look down on the Saanich peninsula. A bit of a steep scramble in parts but well worth it.

had a fun walk, recommend layers, and it took us an age because we had an ambitious 3 year old hiking up with us (carried down).

Amazing views is all directions. Loose rocks on the initial part of the trail and some climbing over boulders near the top. Well rewarding hike.

We parked near the yellow gate and walked up the front side and then down the wider trail and back along the road to our car. Nice family hike.

Steep trail, some scrambling, but doable. first time up, definitely spent some time at the top and at the swing. Bring water if its a hot day, especially for your pup, and wear good hiking shoes.

Steep, some tricky spots, but short and the views are incredible! Swing was fun and made for some great photo ops.

Great hike- went up the backside (?) starting on the train tracks. The trail was quite over grown and very steep, but a better workout thank the usual route. Amazing views at the top since it’s not smoky this year!

Overall it was an absolutely beautiful trail with gorgeous views, however be prepared to scramble a lot and pretty much walk straight up the mountain until you reach the top! We’re novice hikers and it took us about 35-40 mins to get to the top (some places we couldn’t tell where the trail was) and 25 to get down. There wasn’t any shade on the trail which made it a little harder because it was so hot outside but I definitely would recommend checking it out! Wear shoes with good grips!!

Trail starts off steep but fairly easy, then a third of the way up you reach the tower and after here the trail becomes narrow with a few scrambling sections. But the views along the way are great and once you get to the top, you get gorgeous 360 views of Shawnigan Lake, the mountains, ocean, Saltspring, Mill Bay, and beyond. And of course the swing is a highlight! We had a baby on the back so it was a bit tricky during the scrambling sections but totally doable!

The trail up and down is not very pretty (front nicer than back), but the view at the top is spectacular.

Fantastic trail but so wear good shoes as flip-flops were a stupid move for me (spontaneous hike!). Fairly steep rocky sections so I would also advise you leave your old dogs at home too. (Did I happen to mention this was spontaneous?) Super happy we took the time to make the trek up this gorgeous trail. The staggered views were so worth it!

Clear sunny day... with views for days, steep incline for a quick 40min to the top... has a nice swing that overlooks the lake.

This trail is all uphill but it’s short like 45 minute incline with a beautiful view at the top. Unique features of shawnigan lake, rock statues and a swing. A great place to sit and have a picnic. I liked this hike cuz it’s short with a good workout! My kind of hike :) would 100% do again!!

Quick hike with a hard grind at the beginning. Then some scrambling at the end. Gorgeous views.

Relatively quick and easy trail. The first access point (red gate) is a slightly longer and less incline/decline, whilst the second access point (yellow gate) is a slightly steeper but shorter incline/decline. Both have some loose rocks so be careful of footing. I’ve done this trail twice now and found it “easier” to do the trail from the yellow gate and scramble up the rocks for the other part of the trail rather than trying to navigate down them, then exit via the red gate. Excellent views over the island with some bird watching. Don’t forget the swing! Lots of view points up top to have a moment to yourself and enjoy the scenery.

Took the access road and stayed to the right should have gone left as the trail was very steep. Fabulous view, great fun on the swing. I would do this again as it's a short jaunt to the top.
