Mountain Lakes (aka Heiko's) Trail is a 21.4 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Fernie, British Columbia, Canada that features a waterfall and is only recommended for very experienced adventurers. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from July until November. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
THE hike in the area. Beautiful waterfalls, alpine meadows, ladders and bridges. Huge cave with a waterfall inside it. Bring bear spray, and be ready to be stunned. Drop spare vehicle at Island Lake Lodge, and then drive to opposite trailhead (4WD recommended). This 20 kilometre hike requires 1200 vertical metres of climbing over two mountain passes. The trail climbs through alpine meadows to the west ridge of the Three Sisters Mountain, descends down to Fairy Creek Meadows, climbs Windy Pass north of Mount Fernie and traverses to the Tamarack Trail which descends down to Island Lake Lodge.
