Fantastic hike! It is longer than alltrails says and elevation gain is just over 600m. Views weren’t very good as it had rained earlier and was overcast but the temperature was amazing. Christmas gully was amazing and the technical areas were a lot of fun. Note: don’t miss the trail between the two bridges, you blink and you’ll miss it. The trails were better marked than anticipated if you are paying attention.

Tricky to catch the turn off of the Howe Crest Trail. It’s almost a scramble the whole way up but really not too bad. Lots of bugs in the gully. Make sure you bring lots of water as you will want to spend lots of time at the top! You can go up to both the North and South peaks. Due to time I only visited the South peak but will definitely be returning to check out the North! I would not recommend following other hikers advice in following the ski trails down to save time. My hiking buddy and I attempted to do this and found it more challenging and confusing. Just stick to the actual trail (plus you will see some history even!) :) Super enjoyable hike and very beautiful! :)

Great hike with rewarding views. Completed the Strachan loop clockwise. Trail up was a bit hard to navigate, but the way down was well marked with flag tape. LOTS of pesky bugs, especially in the Christmas gully so bring deep woods spray if you have it!

Hordes of bugs near the top of Christmas gully. Muddy sections but able to keep feet dry.

Good hike with a great view at the top. Christmas Gully is a hard climb. Trail to the gully is between two tiny bridges that are a couple of metres apart so is easily missed. My GPS showed this hike as being just over 8 km.

beautiful views! make sure you have the proper footwear! do NOT attempt this in runners! super steep and technical terrain, especially coming down. hiking poles would help big time. packed snow is starting to melt so you get surprise sink holes every now and then. super slippery coming down but had fun sliding down on my butt :) perfect beautiful day

Spectacular views. Nice half day objective. Still lots of snow in Christmas Gully. Watch out for bears. We saw three on the way down.

Nice little loop. Easy to lose the trail with the snow still at the top, and tricky in parts, but fun nonetheless.

Friday 06/19 8am - Best views I’ve ever seen on a BC hike. 360 views at North summit. We did the clockwise loop going up howe sound crest trail and down random ski runs. Going up - beginning was easy and well marked, following the directions on vancouver trails website. With the snow, make sure you look out for the trail markers which can be hard to find at times. We did our best to find footsteps in the snow. Christmas gully was tough esp in the snow and not the best footwear. Poles helped a lot. Finally getting to north summit was the best feeling. Then to south summit and back down - easy going down the ski runs. Lots of space and not much snow. Didn’t see anyone on the way up. Saw 4 people at the summit area and that’s it. Enjoy and get some good hiking boots/spikes if you’re hiking it soon.
